Heavy bags and long lines are a few things that drive me crazy. When it comes to airports, I’m beat, but one thing that gets me through long trips in and out of the air is a good read. If I haven’t found the time to read on the ground, flights are the perfect opportunity to catch up on books I’ve been meaning to read or enjoy a staple favorites guaranteed for peaceful flights. Some of these books are my favorites to read and provide good laughs, inspiring stories, and wisdom that I can implement into daily life.
1. Lessons from Madame Chic by Jennifer L. Scott
“Rejoice in every aspect of life—big or small. Let nothing pass you by. Appreciate everything—whether it is perceived as good or bad. You have the power to turn any experience into a pleasurable one. Challenge your preconceptions and luxuriate in the simple things of life.”
One of my favorite books, Madame Chic, is the perfect book for a flight. I came across this very popular lifestyle book when I was at a Barnes and Noble gaining inspiration for my blog. With flare and a bit of fun, Ms. Scott tells all about how to be the perfect Parisian woman. Gain insight and be inspired by this jewel on a short flight or a long layover. It will quickly become one of your favorites.
2. Pug Hill by Alison Pace
“For Holly Golightly, there was always Tiffany’s. For me, there’s always Pug Hill. For as long as I’ve lived in New York, whenever I’ve just wanted to think, or relax, or be happy, or even sad, my destination of choice has been, without fail, Pug Hill.”
A cute book about pugs in New York City is guaranteed to make you feel happy. Pug Hill is all charm spiced with humor and fun. Gain some confidence along with our heroine with some laughs along the way.
3. Real Simple Magazine
A tad biased, Real Simple is by far one of my favorite reads. I love reading magazine articles and whenever I know I have a trip coming up I run off to the nearest drug store or barnes and noble and pick up my favorite magazines my favorite of all being Real Simple. What I love about Real Simple is well curated articles for women to read and be inspired. For a flight, it helps me feel like I’m doing something when I’m trapped in a chair for a couple of hours.
4. Always a Distant Anchorage by Hal Roth
“The people and experiences and sea passages all tumbled together into a melange of living at the peak. It was a miraculous adventure that could never be taken from us.”
A book I fell in love with in the summer, it is the perfect book to bite you with the travel bug. The journey of a wife and husband on their sailboat, Whisper, told from both perspectives, Always a Distant Anchorage is a soon to be classic travel book. Thrills, humor, relationships, and human interest make up this the perfect book for long commutes and travels.
5. Dog Stories by James Herriot
“A farmer once told me one of the greatest luxuries of his life was to wake up early only to go back to sleep again.” (All Creatures Great and Small)
If you love dogs or even if you hate them you will love these stories. Famous for his other book series, All Creatures Great and Small, James Herriot takes us into the world of a farm vet in 1930’s England. The memoirs of Mr. Herriot are charming and filled with good laughs. I read James Herriot when I’m in unfamiliar places or needing to relax because of its familiarity and joyful writing. Escape from the stressful airport or the irritating person next you on the plane with this perfect read.
