I think spring makes all of us have a new take on life. The winter comes to an end and our interest in life outside of our thick coats and bowls of soup begin to take sprout. We start to get outside, stretch our mental legs and begin to pick up new hobbies. One of mine, is finding new books to help stretch my view of the world. This month features a list of books that are helping me do just that! What are you reading this spring to help you grow?
The Night Tiger by: Yangsze Choo
Published in February, this book is a new read that I am absolutely loving! One of my favorite aspects of Asian literature is the difference in culture from our own western points of view. This story, as with much of Asian literature, weaves folk lore and mystery together to create an interesting world so unique to my own. Its a pleasure to read and I am excited to see how it ends!
The Mindful Day: Practical Ways to Find Focus, Clam and Joy from Morning to Evening by: Laurie J. Cameron
I am not a self help or how to book kind of person. That being said, I found it helpful. Mindfulness is being conscious of your thoughts, feelings, and the world around you. To be actively thinking about why we do what we do, and why we think the way we think and how to control that is an important element to anyone who wants to live a full and happy life.
While I personally do not agree with much of the meditation practices, I do think it is extremely important to carve out time each day to focus on how we react to our own feelings and the world around us. Developing the skills of self discernment and suppressing reactive behavior has been instrumental in helping me deal with work and life and all the stress than comes with it. A perfect read for someone who is looking to relieve unwanted stressors.
You Must Remember This Podcast by Karina Longworth
I saw my first classic film at 8 years old. From that day on, I fell in love with old Hollywood and the glamour of black and white films. If you, like me, love movies like Casablanca and Roman Holiday, and obsess over learning facts about your favorite classic Hollywood actors, then this is the perfect podcast for you. I know its not a “read” but its definitely a great place to learn about the lives of your favorite actors behind the timeless movies they created. I listen to it at work almost every week.
Let me know what podcasts or books you’re into!
